UEFA Champions League

The round of 16, got over. Still in blues, after Manu lost to a much better Milan side. Arsenal didn't do well again in UEFA league. Chelsea beat Barca, and Liverpool go through. No spanish team made it to the quaterfinals. Two Italian teams( Inter vs Porto match still left), one french(of late french teams are doing good in the UEFA), Holland, and the mighty Munich are back in business.

A question has been nagging me, or i will put it this way many people who watch soccer for entertainment have been asking me, esp after Greece won the EURO 2004. How can a team like Greece win EURO 2004? (they are forgetting one thing, the same Greeks overcame the Zidanes the Figos with a clinical performance). I agree they don't play attractive football. But ultimately whats important is the cup. Not the no of people who say what a beautiful game the french team has played. Thats one of the reason why Manu or Arsenal, or all of the EPL(lets see how far the chelsea and liverpool go) teams fail to perform in the UEFA. When opposite side play an unorthodox game(eg packing the midfield) they fail to deliver the goods. Thats FOOTBALL at its best, tactics. Winning no matter what the conditions are. You know that Arsenal loves to play an open football, free flowing one touch football. So stop the free flow, crowd the midfield. All the wingers are ineffective. Same case with ManU.

Not letting in a goal is also beautiful, it requires more determination than scoring, more discipline, and more coordination. Germany made it to the finals in the FIFA world cup 2002.
